Daily Art Challenge - Day 329 of 365 - 23rd Jan 2026
Today’s painting almost didn’t happen. What should have been a quick hospital check-up for my wrist (can you believe it’s almost a year since I broke it?) turned into a 2.5-hour affair thanks to delays. All is well with the wrist - but wow, what a day.
So today’s painting of little Vum was a little more rushed than I would have liked, but they still made it onto the canvas - and that counts. Vum is the third of the Birch Knights, completing this chivalrous trio of fungal guardians.
With their wonderfully jaunty cap - almost like a wild quiff of hair - Vum feels cool, funky, and full of character. Armed with a tall spear rather than a sword, they stand just a little apart from the others, ready to defend Faefern Forest in their own unique way.
I’ll admit, I’m really looking forward to repainting all three Birch Knights one day, with more time and more detail. But for now, here they stand - the Chivalrous Fungus, complete at last.

Painted on a mini 7cm x 7cm stretched canvas, this piece comes with its own little wooden easel for easy display - a tiny treasure to brighten any corner.
