Daily Art Challenge - Day 342 of 365 - 5th Feb 2026
This is what happens when you paint at 1am. After spending the evening — and most of the night — at the hospital with our 10-year-old daughter, I got home after midnight. She’s still there with her dad, and sleep just wouldn’t come, so I decided to paint. I knew I’d rest easier knowing today’s piece was done before heading back first thing in the morning.
On the way home an owl flew past me, and I briefly thought about painting one, but instead this moonlit bluebell woodland quietly emerged on the canvas, shaped by tiredness and that hazy, in-between state of mind. I hope it carries a sense of calm, with just a hint of foreboding, mirroring how the night felt.
Nothing too serious — all being well, she should be home later today. This one feels a little different from my usual work, but perhaps that’s exactly what this moment needed.
